The Sunchaser went into Keith the magic mechanic today as I get ready to fly to Chicago tomorrow. Let’s see how many Oppos can peg the diagnosis from the symptoms. Your prize is a priceless....nothing. Ok, 10 minutes of free legal advice that will amount to “It depends.”

The problem: Groaning sound from the steering column when driving after startup. Pronounced when reversing from driveway and turning. It disappears as the car is driven. There seems to be (could be mental) a persisent unusual vibration in the steering wheel.

What’s your theory? I will tell you what Keith co confirms when I have it. Did I mention that if your car fails in Fresno go to Kieth. He’s on Birch in Pinedale. Right off the freeway. He is the fucking man.

Low power steering fluid. Sound goes away when you’re driving because of RPM’s

Had an ‘80 Celica in high school/college. Did what you described. Had a leak in the power steering system. Was losing a bottle’s worth of fluid weekly. Got a couple hoses replaced, no more issues.

Also, two bags of kitty litter to soak up the puddle where I parked.

I could only imagine it involves the power steering pump or reservoir.
